India has a population of over 1.2 billion people, with only one-third of them being able to read and write. Some of the country’s most difficult challenges include population growth, shortages of teachers, books, and basic facilities.
The Covid-19 pandemic has been a big blow to education for underprivileged children in India. With schools closed in India since March 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic, education has taken a big hit. Underprivileged students from rural areas are facing the big challenge as schools have turned to online education to fill the gap.
One of the core objectives of our tailoring schools in the villages is teaching skills that our students can use for a lifetime to earn an income for themselves, their families, and even their community.
The State where we work is one of the poorest states in India, it is also home to more than 241 million people, making it the highest populated state in India. The majority of the people depend on agriculture and migrant farm work, which is often unreliable and leaves many families without jobs for months at a time.
Over the last year, 120 women graduated from our tailoring schools with life transforming skills that will enable them to provide for their families, start businesses, and lead lives of respect and dignity within their communities. With every school we start, doors are opened and hope is brought to a marginalized people.
Computer-assisted education is helping children to build up the required confidence and narrow down the gap between urban and rural education. We are inspiring young minds through providing computer education and believe such confluence of inspiration shall have a lasting impact.
