Community Health Worker Live-Update
July marked the fourth month of our emergency nutrition program carried out by our Community Health Workers in the field. Initially, we were committed to providing nutrient-rich supplements to nine women in the villages we discovered were dangerously underweight. After the first few months, we saw marked improvement in all but two of the women. One of these is the woman who inspired the need for this project. Initially, she was barely 66 pounds. After four months of vital nutrients, she is now eight pounds heavier, but she is not out of the danger zone based on her height.

This is concerning because seven women responded very well to the nutrients and gained 15-20 pounds each. Only our original mother of three and one other woman gained less than ten pounds in the same time frame taking the same amount of nutrients.
The women not responding to the emergency nutrition were also the two with the lowest starting weight (66 and 63 pounds, respectively). The next step for our health workers will be to work with the two women and refer them to hospital staff in the closest city. Each of our Community Health Workers carefully documents vitals and known medical history so that doctors will have a baseline to work from when diagnosing more severe issues.

Raising Money for India and Teaching New Skills
Did you know that Global Helps has a vehicle donation program? We do! We’re looking for used Hybrids with a dead battery that we can bring back to life. Restored vehicles are resold to fund our work in India and South Asia, but the part of the project that excites us the most is our discipleship training. We’ll be working with young men in the formative stages of life, some with a troubled history, and teaching them a marketable skill they can take into the workforce.

We are excited to get this project going in our local community that will help raise funds for India, train up men and young men here in the States with a valuable trade skill, and provide discipleship and mentorship to young men who are searching and those looking to grow in their faith in Christ. If you have a hybrid you’re willing to donate or know someone that does, go to the link HERE and let us know!
